Kuwait is located in the Middle East. Kuwait shares its borders with Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Iraq.
The land area of Kuwait is about 7,500 square miles, or roughly
the size of Wales.
Most of the country is a flat desert plain, broken by coastal
dunes and escarpments, marshes and salt depressions around Kuwait Bay, and an
oasis in Jahra. The country has nine offshore islands. Kuwait is essentially a
city-state. There are smaller communities inland and to the south, but most of
the population lives in Kuwait City.
Before the Iraqi invasion the population was estimated at over 2
million, of whom only about 28% were Kuwaitis with full citizenship. The
population dropped sharply during the Iraqi occupation.
Kuwait’s population is now approx. 2.6 million; the percentage of
Kuwaitis is 52%.
